Standard of Competence:
6. Expressing the meaning of written monolog texts in the form of narrative, explanation, and discussion accurately, fluently, and appropriately in the context of daily life.

Basic Competence:
6.1. Expressing the meaning and rhetoric structures of written monolog text using a variety of language in the form of narrative, explanation, and discussion accurately, fluently, and appropriately in the context of daily life.

Sub-Basic Competence
6.1.1. Expressing the meaning and rhetoric structures of written monolog text using a variety of language in the form of narrative accurately, fluently, and appropriately in the context of daily life.

Indicators:
Use “If Clause” in telling a story/news.

Learning Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to be able to :
Write “Conditional Sentence type II” in the affirmative form appropriately and accurately by working in groups, in pairs and individually.

  • IT IS CALLED “IMPROBABBLE CONDITION”. MEANING YOU ARE JUST IMAGINING SOMETHING AND IT IS CONTRARY TO THE FACT IN PRESENT TIME.
  • UNREAL/CONTRARY-TO-FACT CONDITIONAL
  • TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT YOU THINK IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN.
E.G. : IF I HAD A CELLPHONE, I WOULD CALL HIM.
(MEANS: I HAVE A CELLPHONE, BUT I WOULD CALL HIM.
Social function:  Talk about something that you think is unlikely to happen.
Structure : IF + S + V2 + O , S + would + V1 + O
e.g. :    - If I had a cellphone, I would call him.
- If we played football in the rain, we would get sick.
  • WERE INSTEAD OF WAS
IN “IF CLAUSE” TYPE II, THE PAST FORM OF BE “WERE” IS USED FOR BOTH SINGULAR AND PLURAL SUBJECTS IN CONDITIONAL SENTENCES TYPE II INSTEAD OF “WAS”, EVEN IF THE PRONOUNS SUCH AS I, SHE, HE, OR IT.
E.g. : - If I were you, I would study hard.
            - If I were rich, I would buy a plane.

PRE ACTIVITIES
1.     Greeting the students
“Good Morning, everybody. How are today?”

2.     Checking the present list
“Who is absent today? / Is everybody here today?”

3.     Giving motivation by showing a picture and asking some questions related to the topic.
 

a.    Do you know what picture is this?
b.   What is the dog thinking about? Please raise your hand!
c.    Ok. Good. Let’s write the sentence on the white board.
d.   Do you know what kind of sentence is this?
e.    Good. This is the conditional sentence type II.

4.     Telling the objective of the lesson.
So, can you guess what we are going to learn today?”
“What do we do with the conditional sentence?”
“Good. Writing the conditional sentence. So, at the end of the lesson,you are able to write conditional sentence type II accurately and appropriately with 70% achievement.”

WHILE ACTIVITIES
5.     Explaining about conditional sentence type II.
“Conditional sentence is sentence that use to talk about something that you think is unlikely to happen.”

6.     Giving  example
a.    Showing the pattern of the affirmative form of conditional sentence type II in pocket chart.
b.   Giving an example of the affirmative form of conditional sentence type II.

7.     Giving  exercise
a.    Putting the students into groups of four members randomly by giving them cards, which will determine the group they belong to.
b.   Asking students to do the exercise in groups. (Worksheet I)
c.    Discussing the exercise.

POST ACTIVITIES
8.     Reviewing  the lesson by asking some questions:
Do you get something from lesson today?”
What have we learnt today?”
“What is conditional sentence?”
“Anyone can give me an example of conditional sentence?”

9.     Carrying out evaluation (See the evaluation sheet)
Please, work individually and write conditional sentence type II  based on the situation provided. If you get under 70, you will have remedial.” (Worksheet II).

Write 5 conditional sentence type II and it will be collect next week!(Worksheet III).

12. Closing today’s lesson
“That’s the end of our lesson today and next week we will learn about conditional sentence type 2 in the negative form. So, please learn about it and don’t forget to do your homework. See you next week. Good morning!
